Artist Statement
Kippi Leonard, a multidisciplinary artist based in Cathedral City, California, explores the interplay of depth, tension and structure through her textured and bold compositions. her practice spans oil painting, printmaking, and collage, each offering a unique perspective the complements the others.
Her oil paintings utilize a process-driven layering technique with raw linen, birch panels, and diverse materials, creating dynamic textures and depth.
In her monoprint work she employs oil relief inks, cut paper, and an etching press to create ethereal, multidimensional pieces. A recent monoprint series was juried into the prestigious California Society of Printmakers exhibition in 2024, with its catalog archived at UC Berkeley.
Her collage work incorporates monoprints and collected papers inspired by architecture and travel, creating compositions that reflect her appreciation for architectural elements, particularly brutalist design.
This approach results in compositions marked by expressive lines, nuanced palettes, and complex textures, embodying both a sense of tension and structural clarity.
With works held in private collections worldwide, her art resonates across cultural and geographical boundaries, her work invites connection, provokes thought, and celebrates the transformative power of art.
